POEM OF THE DAY: Gazing at Spring

by Xue Tao (768 – 831).

Gazing at Spring

Flowers bloom:

no one

to enjoy them with.

Flowers fall:

no one                                                    5

with whom to grieve.

I wonder when love’s

longings

stir us most –

when flowers bloom,                      10

or when flowers fall?
