Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 –1882) was an American essayist, lecturer, philosopher and poet from Boston, Massachusetts.  This week’s text is his essay ‘Self-Reliance’.  It was first published in 1841 and expresses his views on conformity and the need to follow one’s own instincts.
